App is nice, lobbying against easier tax filing is disgusting

Doing your taxes is complicated and this app has worked pretty well for me.

But Intuit has spent millions of dollars opposing legislation that would simplify tax preparation (cf. Farhad Manjoo, “Would You Let ths I.R.S. Prepare Your Taxes?”, NY Times, 15 April 2015; and others). And naturally they get what they want — their concentrated millions are more powerful than the distributed frustration of millions of taxpayers. Tax preparation becomes a system that turns your time into their money.

So every year you have the freedom to choose between the hard lonely tax-prep path, or that soft Intuitive embrace. God bless America!
