TurboTax 2015 App Reviews

Underwhelming

I am lucky enough that my taxes are pretty similar each year, however TurboTax appears to make it more work than needed. My biggest issue is that it tends to ask strange questions and then get confused. This year it decided I was ammending my return, and then proceeded to break everything so that I had to manually bypass multiple areas. I believe it finally is working, but it greatly undermines my level of trust in the product.

Wonderful - VERY easy

My tax return is unbelievably difficult to do. Flight school business, Lots of investments, teaching expenses, multiple jobs. I started at 9:30 in the morning and had both Federal and State done in less than 90 minutes. The Mac version makes it very easy to use with lots of error checks. I love it!

Costs more than Brick and Mortar (and a couple of bugs)

The product works great as always for my relatively simple return (joint filing, itemized deductions, a few 1099s). Either they raised the price significantly this year, or the App store version costs almost twice as much as buying it in a Brick and Mortar store.

Pricing is a scam

Beware the pricing. This version only allows 1 return. You can purchase it for half the price at Costco. Last time I will use this product.

Outrageous fees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cost me 100 to file, such effing BS!

Credit Card Cost is Outragous

One of the up sides to paying the tax man with a Credit Card is at least getting Points. However, Turbo Tax has completely stripped away all the perks of that with a 2.49% flat rate against your payment on top of a $3.95 charge that insures little benefit from using a Credit Card. Consider yourself warned that even with the best Points card on the market (Venture, Sapphire or Barclays) you will be little rewarded. I have used Turbo Tax for years and I can’t say I wont next year, But this is going to get me to look around and see what other Tax Software has have to offer.

Unethical Pricing Structure

This app guides you through the entire process *before* asking you to pay. That means that you have no way of knowing what you will be charged until after youve spent hours entering your information. If the price isnt what youd expected, and you dont agree to it, youve just wasted a bundle of time. Additionally, once youve "upgraded" to Deluxe or Premiere, you cannot downgrade to process other returns. This would be fine in a traditional software model where you pay once—but TurboTax requires you to pay for every filing. In other words, if you have several people in your household, and only one needs the Deluxe edition, you still have to pay the Deluxe price for every single person. I believe this pricing structure is corrupt and unethical, and I wont be using the software any longer.

I’ve been a fan for years!

Year after year, Turbo Tax continues to offer the same seamless, intuitive, and pain-free way to file taxes!

crashes and validation error when went to efile

Got all the way done with a long taxes and had delayed since I owe. I went to file and it would fail to efile and to make matters worse if I went to print it crashes. Total cluster. I did find a fix. Go and download the non app store version from the intuit site (I got deluxe version). You have to pay again, but it both saved to PDF and submitted. Hope this helps someone else. I am also a developer and know that app store versions have to play in the sandbox, but non app store don’t so less chance buggy and quicker to update.

Worked for me

Had to do my own tax return for the first time in 30 years because of uncontrollable issues. Did it while I was on vacation.

couldnt be happier

the only wrinkle is they charged me twice for state module even tho home&business claims to include one state.. maybe i misunderstood. product itself worked out (second year in the row) better than i could hope.

Beware of Double Charges

I have used TurboTax for the last 10 Years and have never had an issue. However, this year is the first time I bought it directly from the Apple App Store. After downloading TT Deluxe I completed the In-App purchase to upgrade to Premier. All was good until I completed my taxes and went to e-file. I was greeted with an error saying there had been a “technical glitch” and that I would need to re-enter my password. This did not solve the problem. After going to the TurboTax help website the recommendation was to Force Quit and then retry, and if prompted to purchase again, just click through and no charge would occur. Guess what, $119.00 in app purchase later TT customer service is no where to be found. They will not return calls, and If I am lucky enough to get through I am prompyly disconnected. Needless to say I will NEVER use TurboTax again in the future. Thanks Intuit for ruining a once terrific product.

Worked as perfect as ever!

Worked great like it always has for the 5+ years I have been using turbo tax. Had no issues and it easily guided me through the sale of Restricted Stock Units that I received as a grant from my employer. Didn’t miss any deductions or credits. first time downloading from the App store, and I liked that you don’t have to pay until your return is complete. It is easy to upgrade to different versions based on the answers you give and TurboTax was upfront about costs when I went to premium!

Checkout sketchy

Seems like it was 300 bucks to do this… still unsure…

Matched a Tax Preparers Second Look

I’ve used Turbo Tax for years after another tax preparer that did my taxes in person became more expensive than what I thought my taxes were worth. This year, I ended up paying a large amount of taxes as I filed my return. Fearful that my tax situation had grown beyond my expertise, I brought my return to H&R Block for what they call their free Second Look. They confirmed that I had done my taxes completely correctly using Turbo Tax. I appreciate that companys service and looking over my taxes for free but I’m happy to say that Turbo Tax still hasn’t let me down after all these years. I just had a little different tax situation this year.

Garbage - Does Not Work

After spending several hours using this program to complete my taxes, I went to file my taxes through the program, and pay for the program through the Apple App Store, and got an error that my payment did not go through. I was advised to change my App Store settings to require a password after 15 minutes, which was my setting already. I confirmed my setting, went back to the program and the payment would still not process for the App through the App Store. After saving my return I shut down my computer and restarted the Turbotax app only to find that my return was not saved and now I would have to start all over again. I’ve never had this problem before with using Turbotax via the Apple App store, and after seeing all of the reports of this same issue online, and with no fix to date, I can only conclude that Turbotax does not want my money. Fine, you will not get it.

5 year customer gone in an instant

Bug in the software, caused my taxes to be locked with a passcode, even though I specifically checked not to encrypt. This caused me to have to start from scratch after I had completely finished once. The price was also higher than expected at the end, I wish Turbotax would just price their products upfront instead of pulling a fast one at the end.

So Quick And Easy!

Sure, it may cost me $92.99 (bundle discount) to file California and Federal returns electronically through this application, when this process is otherwise free. It is worth it to me, for audit protection and peace of mind. I always do my taxes manually to ensure everything is correct, then I use TurboTax (or a preparer) to ensure alignment. Yet again with TurboTax, alignment was realised with no disparity whatsoever. Everything went technically well without so much even a glitch. The purchase occurred smoothly through AppStore; it was as any Apple transaction would go - painless and simple. The application for MacOS X runs extremely well. There are several validation steps along the way. No complaints at all from me - nine years of use and counting.

Not a fan of the sneaky pricing at the end!!!

Not a fan of the sneaky pricing at the end!!! Not cool….

Finicky Editing spoil otherwise excellent app

I’ve used TurboTax for ages and find it saves some time. I did have an issue when entering some data. I had to edit an issue with foreign accounts. It didn’t save address information between changes in certain settings and I had to re-enter the address. Worse still was when I went to edit the form and it had an option for this, that or both - it had forgotten that I had done both before and when I ignored resetting that option correctly, it removed the previous entered information. Had to reset that page. The rest was pretty good.
