TurboTax 2015 App Reviews

TurboTax blocked out the first part of my email address, which left me unaware that I accidently typed it in incorrectly during the initial setup of my return. I kept working on my return and left the App. Once I returned, TurboTax would not let me access my return unless I could enter in a non existant email address to get a verification code sent to that email address, to allow me to access my return. Even worse, it would only sent return access codes to the non existent email. Hopefully, no one actually owned the incorrect address! Otherwise, anyone could have had remote access to all of my personal information. Upon contacting TurboTax, I jumped through the appropriate hoops to try to link the accounts, only to find out that they only granted me a password reset through my existing email address! Needless to say, I started a second return from scratch. Even worse, TurboTax had mental difficulties accepting the fact that I am single, and not married filing jointly. To access my last years TurboTax returns, my ex wife always was aware of any time I even tried to load up last years TurboTax pdf. Next year, I will not use TurboTax for sure.

The app needs some improvement. I’ve used Turbo Tax for 15 years and the 2015 is, without a doubt, the worst yet. It did not import my 2014 taxes there I had to enter all data. That should have been my first clue about the bugs of this program. #1 - form does not open where you left off. #2 - had an issue of a worksheet which ended up I did not need. Turbo Tax state would not let me file even though I had ammended the amount on the actual form. It took a lot of trial and error to resolve the matter on the worksheet to come up error free. #3 - Would not accept my Apple ID or password stating it was not valid. #4 - would not transmit forms as it did not accept my payment for app. I was instructed over and over to go to settings in the iTunes part and change the command “require password after 15 minutes.” That was my already my setting. Again, time for trial and error. Finally I shut my Mac down completely and payment/file transmitting FINALLY went through. #5 - the price is ridiculous. Cost for federal and state was $92.00.

Yes, taxes are complicated if one in not filing 1040EZ. This is the reason that one either has a tax accountant, a tax firm or Turbo Tax to do it. I have been using Turbo Tax for the past 4 years. Doing taxes is about as much fun as having a root canal. But once I gather all the supporting documents (which one HAS TO DO BEFORE USING TURBO TAX — It’s a good app, but can’t do it for you), it works as expected. It walks you through each step including e-filing. It did hang on the in-app purchases. But That was a good thing, because I had entered some verifying information incorrectly. Otherwise, it worked perfectly as advertised. I am happy.

My taxes were fairly simple this year, but overall it was much better experience than I had last year using a different service. It has a good UI, its simple, makes taxes less painful, and thats what we all want, right?

Works great. Now $100 to file state & federal. That’s double what it used to be, going forward we’ll find a better solution. I suppose if you get thousands back that’s not too much, but if you dial in your taxes to keep your money in hand, it’s not worth it.

I have more complicated taxes than average and have used TurboTax for many years. I did try some of the “free” alternatives last year but gave up and came back to TurboTax. I suspect if you start with one program it is easier to stay with that. But there were more automated inputs including W2, brokerage accounts, banks, HSA and even donations. The other programs I tried last year didn’t have as many imports and it saved me a lot of time not having to type in all the information. My only complaint is that at my income level I am not elligible for certain tax breaks. But I still need to go thru those sections to see if that is true. It does allow you to skip but it doesn’t tell you that a setion probably doesn’t apply based on past tax returns and inputs from this year. That way you can skip and come back later if needed.

Super easy to use, had it done it no time. Life save, thank goodness this was available!

Intuit was great 15 years ago? I bougth their products when they supported macs well.. I loved quicken. paid for all the updates. then they dumped it for OS X i was a beta test when they decided to realease it for X. Trashed my data.. had to figure mess out. no prob .. it was a beta. Now I do taxes.. bought turbo tax last year. 30$ or something.. it was cheap. I am doing my taxes. and i see a charge of $127 ! Hmm I missed something? some convulted sale/discount i didnt take af whatever intuit.. Never Never Never again. wont give you a dime..

This year it cost me 5x more to do my taxes with TurboTax than it did last year thanks to the very conniving method Intuit used to sneak their increased pricing packages into TurboTax at the very end just before it lets you file. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t realize that until it was too late to switch to a less expensive software. I can just imagine the board meeting in which the specious business acumen was exerted to its fullest extent upon the realization that if they just charge a lot more for the packages, but let you e-file free, no consumer will notice that they’re actually paying more because hey, “free e-file.” Some mega-rich board member is sitting in his vacation home in the Florida Keys laughing with a devilish grin, saying of all of us “Suckas!"

I ran into so many errors that did not have any explanation. Royal Dutch Shell Federal EIN is a succession of zeros but this is an error with Turbotax and it doesn’t allow you to file. I reported a 1099-Misc and it kept asking me about accounting methods and some other alphabets that were unrelated to why I received my income. All of this resulted in a late transmission because I eventually just put what I thought was best. I will definitely look for another way to file my taxes.

Turbotax used to be up front about their pricing, even if they didn’t tell you about the charge to file state taxes until you were doing them already. but now they’ve gone another step further. In an effort to get the most money out of you, they no longer show you the price as you go, they just wait until you’re done and show you a charge of $20 more than the last year, and make you use iTunes to check out, which I hate with every protein of my being. Why is it that even though I use the same password for 5 other things, it only ever fails with iTunes? It is frustrating to say the least.

This years version sucked and cost more then years prior.

3rd year using this so it gets a little smoother once you have sorted through the confusing menu system. It checks for errors at the end before filing & I got errors for lines on my return that it should have been able to calculate on it’s own. Instead I had to googlefu the answer which was time consuming. If this is supposedly the best program I would hate to see the worst.
